The NY Times has an interesting profile on Jack Smalling who for fifteen years has been collating the mailing addresses of living baseball players to help fans and collectors contact them. Mr. Smalling, 68 and widowed as a former crop insurance salesman, works out of his suburban basement in Ames, Iowa and uses 411.com and return service postcards to verify the addresses he finds. Mr. Smalling sells about 20,000 copies a year at $22.50 each. If you're interested, you can order the book from his website .
