What should be the role of science in current climate change research and policy?

How would you summarize your views on current climate change research?

The climate is a complex system of systems that encompasses much more than the absorption spectra of certain gases. Each of these systems may respond to stimuli in non-intuitive ways. Current climate research has leapfrogged the abductive stage of the scientific process of each of these subsystems and instead is attempting induction through the use of complex cellular automata models. I believe this both over-simplifies the science and the process of science. As scientists become advocates for ideas that march under a loosely defined rubric "science", science and politics are becoming intertwined in ways that are detrimental for both.
