NYTimes: Op-Ed: Go With Your Gut: by Harriet Brown
It turns out that when you eat something you like, your body uses the food's nutrients more efficiently - the sights and smells of the food you're anxious to eat stimulate your salivary glands and send more messages to your brain allowing the food to be better digested and metabolized. Savoring your food, instead of eating hurriedly or dutifully, is better nutritionally. The catch? Donuts don't count. The food has to be nutritious to begin with.
